Apartment Interior – ‘Tropicana’

This project celebrates not only the individuality of the homeowner but also the enduring heritage of the place, weaving sentiment, memory, and design into a harmonious living environment.

This apartment interior project, located in the coastal heritage town of Galle, was conceived as a contemporary home deeply rooted in place and memory. The client, a native of the city, carried a strong sense of nostalgia and attachment to Galle’s culture and history, which became the guiding inspiration for the design.

Every detail was carefully considered to capture this connection. Materials were selected for their authenticity and tactility, evoking the textures and tones of the coastal landscape and colonial architecture. Curated furniture pieces were chosen for their craftsmanship and timeless appeal, complemented by hand-picked fabrics and soft furnishings that echo the warmth of local tradition.

Artefacts sourced from the region and specially commissioned paintings infuse the spaces with layers of cultural resonance, while subtle colour palettes draw from the sea, sky, and historic stone walls of the fort. Together, these elements create a home that feels personal, timeless, and distinctly Galle — a reflection of the city’s spirit and the client’s own story.
